Joanna Dargiewicz, Ph.D. in Chemistry

Polish and European (EQE) Patent Attorney, UPC Representative, Founding Partner

 Joanna is a founding partner of JD&P Patent Attorneys and a Polish and European patent attorney specialising in the protection of the solutions in the filed of life sciences, especially chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology and medicine, as well as physics, mechanic and electronics. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry.

She graduated in chemistry with excellent grades from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Her M.Sc. thesis, prepared at the Laboratory of Fibre Optic Technology of the Department of Chemistry, concerned the mechanical properties of polyurethane-coated fibre-optic cables. She then began full-time doctoral studies at the Department of Chemistry of the MCSU. During this time, Joanna received an Erasmus scholarship for research at the University of Limoges, France, on the synthesis of glycosylated porphyrins. After returning to Poland, she defended her Ph.D. dissertation on the synthesis and properties of porphyrin complexes with lanthanides introduced into silica matrices obtained by the “sol-gel” method, at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry, MCSU.

For many years now, she has been involved in translating scientific articles and patents from the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, and medicine as well as in analysing patents and scientific articles to gather information about new compounds and chemical substances for international databases of chemical compounds (Beilstein and MDL).

Joanna obtained a post-graduate diploma in Industrial Property Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, which will allow her to represent clients before the Unified Patent Court. She also underwent the attorney course offered by the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys. She is a qualified Polish and European Patent Attorney (EQE passed in 2016) as well as professional representative before European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), where she is involved in the cases relating to trademarks and designs. Joanna has a substantial experience in the drafting of patent applications and its prosecution before Polish Patent Office (PPO), International Bureau of WIPO and European Patent Office (EPO).  She specialises in patent searches – prior art searches, patentability searches and freedom to operate searches. Moreover, Joanna takes part in the opposition, invalidation and litigation proceedings before PPO, EPO, EUIPO and civil and administrative courts.

Joanna was a partner and co-owner of WTS Patent Attorneys for 8 years, then she decided to leave the partnership and start a new company in order to provide more personalised services for the Clients.

She is a member of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys, where she served as a Secretary of the Revision Commission and a Member of the Board of the Masovian District of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys from 2017 to 2021. Additionally, Joanna is a member of the EPI (she currently serves as a full member of the Professional Education Committee and a full member of the Professional Conduct Committee), AIPPI, INTA and an observer with APAA. She speaks fluent English and Polish, has a basic knowledge of Russian and is learning Spanish and French.

Michał Przyłuski, M.Sc. Eng. in Computer Science

European Patent Attorney (2021), UPC Representative, CEIPI Diploma on Patent Litigation (2022), Partner

In 2010 he graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology and obtained his M.Sc. Eng. degree in Computer Science (and B.Eng. before that).

He has also studied biotechnology at the University of Warsaw where he had conducted research related to the interplay between vertical and horizontal gene transfer of a RA3 bacterial plasmid and gained both experimental and theoretical knowledge in contemporary biotechnological developments.

Michał’s research interests are focused on computer science and biotechnology, which allows him to he is supporting the partners with patent cases within his area of expertise. Additionally, he takes part in patent matters related to physics, electronics and mechanical engineering. He is an author or co-author of several research papers in regarding convex optimization and portfolio theory. Additionaly, Michał has a strong background in mathematics and physics.

Michał has passed the EQE pre-examination in 2019 and all four EQE papers in 2021. In 2022 he graduated the University Diploma “Patent Litigation in Europe”, organised by CEIPI, which allows him to represent before the Unified Patent Court.

Michał took part in Patent Attorney Trainee Course offered by the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys.

He was a member of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys, where served as a member of the Information Committee. Currently, he is a member of the EPI, EPLIT, INTA and AIPPI, where he is a substitute member of the Revision Committee of the Polish Chapter. In 2023 Michał has been elected as a (substitute) member of the EPI Council and serves as a full member of the Litigation Committee of the EPI.
 
Michal speaks fluent English and Polish, and has a good knowledge of Spanish and a basic knowledge of German.

Ewa Kamińska, M.Sc. Eng. in Chemical Technology

Polish Patent Attorney (2017), Associate

Ewa is a Polish patent attorney specialising in the protection of the solutions in the field of life sciences, especially pharmacy, chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, medicine as well as mechanics.

She graduated with honours from the Łódź University of Technology, Faculty of Food Chemistry and Biotechnology with specialisation in Chemistry of Fragrances and Cosmetic Raw Materials, where she obtained her M.Sc. Eng. degree in Chemical Technology.

Ewa obtained a post-graduate diploma in Industrial Pharmacy at the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Gdańsk Medical School and School of Good Manufacturing Practice OINPHARMA in Warsaw.

Previously, she worked in the research and development departments of companies in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, medical device and food industries – in the area of technology and registration of medicinal products, always in the area of industrial property issues and being responsible for the patent safety of products. She has also worked as a patent attorney in the refining and petrochemical industry.

Ewa has experience of working in patent consultant offices, including those with an international scope.

She advises on industrial property matters, in particular on inventions and utility models.

Magdalena Bułtowicz, M.Sc. in Biology

Patent Specialist, Head of the Translation Department

Magdalena is an experienced translator from English and German specialized in biology, medicine, pharmacy, and chemistry.

She’s been trained in factual edition (Polish Society of Book Publishers) and accomplished several certifications, i.e. CELU (Certificado de Español: Lengua y Uso), Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung, CAE.

 

She is fluent in English, German and Spanish, and has a basic understanding of French and Portuguese. She has graduated the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw. Between 2002 and 2006 she held the position of a technical editor/proofreader for scientific English-language journal Acta Parasitologica of Institute of Parasitology, Polish Academy of Sciences. She has authored an original scientific article ”Immunotoxicity of airborne dust particles in young chickens of both sexes” published in Acta Biologica Cracoviensia Series Zoologia.

Kamila Zielińska, Master of Physical Education

Assistant of a Patent Attorney, Office Manager

Kamila is during her final year of Master’s studies at the Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw at the Faculty of Physical Education, where she has completed her bachelor degree (at the Faculty Tourism and Recreation) in 2018. In 2020 she has obtained her master’s degree in the same field. She specializes in psychosomatic regeneration therapy and she has co-authored “An Overview of Supportive Training for Equestrians”.
 

Kamila speaks Polish, English and Italian. She is also familiar with the Polish Sign Language.

Her great organizational and stress-management skills allow her to easily deal with the duties of a paralegal at JD&P Patent Attorneys.

She is also a passionate equestrian who has been involved during organization of the Cavaliada Equestrian event since 2014. Kamila has completed a military training and currently holds a corporal military rank.
